Volkswagen - EOS Euro NCAP - 4 STAR
A stylish top choice for the well-heeled drop-top buyer, the EOS. Was winner of the prestige Whatcar? "Open Top" car of the Year award for 2007.
Named after a camera lens because people with cameras crowd round each time you lower the roof?!. Probably not, but you can see why this stunning coupe convertible might spawn such fables. There's even ample space in the rear for two adults!! A rare feat for a car in this market.
Incorporating the rather unique and brilliant feature of a sliding glass sunroof into the roof - a sector first, the Eos has a brilliant interior with terrific quality and low-sheen plastics. There is even a deflector to eradicate excessive wind noise.
Every Eos has dual front, side and curtain airbags, ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme), air conditioning, electric heated and adjustable wing mirrors, front fog lights, electric windows, radio/CD player, 16-inch alloy wheels and parking sensors. The Sport model comes with added 17-inch alloys, uprated grille, sports suspension, aluminium-look pedals and heated frontseats. The 3.2 sport adds leather upholstery and is impressively quick.
In addition to a strong windscreen surround, should the car roll over, with the roof down, rear roll bars will pop up in 0.25 seconds. Other safety features include dual front, side and curtain airbags, ESP (Electronic Stability Programme), ABS and ISOFIX childseat mounting points. All cars have an immobiliser and remote central locking.
All engines offer good fuel economy for the class of vehicle. However for those particularly concerned about protecting the earths precious resources, specific consideration should be given to the 2.0 TDI 140PS, with its D rating on the VED Banding scale and fuel consumption figures of 56.5mpg extra urban and 47.1 mpg combined.
This clever open top even works out when it needs to be serviced, so service intervals can be varied, depending on usage, offering the opportunity to reduce the volume of old oil and other used parts in circulation. Insurance start at Group 8, which is very reasonable for this class of motor.
All models come with a 2 year unlimited mileage manufacturers warranty plus a further 1 year / 60,000 miles (whichever is soonest) retailer warranty. The combined warranty means that you are covered, from the registration date of your car, for a total of 3 years or up to 60,000 miles, a (depending on which comes first). In addition you also get a 3 year paint and 12 year anti-corrosion warranty and 1 year breakdown cover.
About the manufacturer
Volkswagen vehicles are designed to have a minimal impact on the environment, from the manufacturing stage, to use and servicing, and finally recycling. Careful selection of recycled and recyclable materials, avoiding hazardous substances, optimising construction
techniques and the labelling of plastic parts with their material type all enable cars to be efficiently recycled.
New model Volkswagen servicing intervals are currently up to 50,000 km, so the volume of old oil and other used parts is greatly reduced.
Volkswagen Group United Kingdom has partnered with
Cartakeback.com to provide a Government approved national network of certified dismantling companies to receive and take care of the environmentally friendly recovery of used Volkswagens. A large range of used parts from vehicle repairs are taken back by Volkswagen and remanufactured on an industrial scale. The remanufactured parts are sold across the world with a full manufacturers guarantee under the name "Genuine Parts. Volkswagen also recycles old catalytic converters. Valuable metals like platinum and rhodium are extracted and used in new catalytic
converters.
Amongst Volkswagens other main aims is the lowest fuel consumption possible, to achieve ecologically benefit for the environment, at the same time as economically benefiting the customer. Volkswagen is leading a European consortium entitled RENEW- to investigate, develop and analyse a variety of
technologies for producing bio fuels. The project currently involves 32 partners, among them four leading carmakers, two major oil producers, plant manufacturers and operators, and research and
development organisations from eight European countries.
VW continues to investigate and elongate the lifespan for its vehicles, because the longer a vehicle can be used the more it reduces the burden on the planets limited raw material resources.
