The superb chassis and the classy and comfortable cabin make this vehicle feel more like an executive vehicle that an off-roader. However don't be fooled its more than capable in the mud.

The X5 is available in 15 models - using the 3.0 and 4.8 litre petrol engines and a 3.0 litre diesel. All the X5 models have electronic self-levelling suspension, remote central locking, cruise control, alloy wheels, park distance control, electric heated door mirrors, roof rails, plus the iDrive system that works the stereo, ventilation and traction control. Sports editions get extras including 19-inch alloy wheels, BMW Sports seats and uprated sports suspension. The 4.6iS has 20-inch alloys, flared wheel arches, twin exhaust pipes. Options include adaptive headlights that swivel on corners. The 5 star NCAP rating is perhaps not that surprising when you see the X5's standard safety equipment which includes front, rear, side and head airbags, ABS brakes, Dynamic Stability Control, Hill Descent Control, Dynamic Brake Control, Cornering Brake Control and anti roll bars front and rear. It's electronic chassis controls even automatically stabilise trailers if they seem about to sway!

All cars have an alarm, immobiliser and remote central locking which explains Thatcham's, (the renowned vehicle security testing company) top 5 star rating for the X5 in its anti-theft tests.

All models come with a 3 year 60000 mile, 3 year paint and 12 year anti-corrosion manufacturers warranty.
