The 1 series hatchback comes with a range of engines across the sweep of 27 models, 17 petrol and 10 diesel. The 116i and 118i have a 5 speed gearbox, whilst 6 speed is standard on all the other models.
The new BMW 1 Series, which goes on sale in Spring 2007, features a model line up that includes the most fuel efficient production vehicle the brand has ever produced. The introduction of a three-door and a revised five-door come as a raft of new fuel saving innovations are rolled out across the range. Technologies such as Brake Energy Regeneration, Auto Start-Stop function and Electric Power Steering are combined with lower rolling resistant tyres and a gearshift change indicator to encourage economical
motoring. These innovations boost power output but cut fuel consumption and emissions.
With most cars being rated in the C to F range on the new VED Banding scale, the BMW 1series 118D with a C rating is right at the forefront of current green motoring, especially with an mpg of 62.8 extra urban and 50.4 combined.
With a top five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP you can rest easy in the knowledge that should you be unfortunate enough to be involved in an accident you will be driving one of the safest vehicles on the road. Six airbags; ABS brakes, Dynamic Stability Control, Dynamic Traction Control, Dynamic Brake Control and Cornering Brake Control are all standard in the 1 series. Run flat tyres are fitted to all cars too, so there's no need to stop to change the wheel if you get a puncture. Keyless entry system recognises the key in the driver's pocket and automatically opens the door. Deadlocks are in place to keep thieves at bay, while a visible VIN
helps make the car more easily traceable in the unfortunate event it should be stolen.
BMW currently offer five years' servicing on the 1 series from under £600 - which takes the worry out of service costs and is transferable between owners. No manufacturer in this sector offers a deal as good as this.
