A new racing car capable of going at 125mph will run on tyres made from potatoes and brake pads made from cashew nut shells.
The car has been built by university researchers who wanted to build an environmentally friendly racing car.
Eco One is the brainchild of WMG, a provider of innovative solutions to industry based at the University of Warwick.
The makers say that Eco One’s engine can be tweaked so that it can reach speeds of 150mph - given a long straight and a tailwind.
The car - which runs entirely on bio-fuels and bio-lubricants – will be making its debut at the Sexy Green Car Show at the Eden Project in Cornwall. Eco One will take its place alongside green offerings from major names in the motor industry such as Ford.
Project manager Ben Wood said his aim was to end up with a racing car which was 95% biodegradable or recyclable.
He said almost everything on the car can be made out of biodegradable or recyclable materials and all the plastic components can be made from plants. And, although the chassis has to be made from steel for strength, it is a very recyclable material.
